Couldn't have predicted that!
There's no escaping covid-19 news. The new norm of face masks, social distancing and an abundance of hand sanitisers has made 2020 a year of practicing strict levels of hygiene. It would be a strange and memorable time to reflect back on in 20 years time- unless we are hit by another pandemic.

Lockdown has presented itself as a challenge for various aspects of life from wellbeing to mental health, from careers to education. Yet- there are a couple of things that deserve a notable mention. I feel like the dynamic of society has unconsciously shifted where people have become more caring and making that extra effort. The transition to working from home has pushed the concept of flexible working a reality. It has built a society more resilient to change, adapt and mindful of others.

1st Class graduate

A personal success of 2020 is that I have graduated with a 1st class Marketing Management degree from the University of Lincoln. It's weird, I cannot pinpoint when my education journey ended- it was a random Wednesday. Graduation ceremony still pending.

Going new places

I was super lucky to be able to go travelling this year...to some extent. In February, covid-19 was still a distant murmur in the west so off to Brussels I go. If you ever go to Brussels, you need to try their chips! Before this trip, I had never associated Brussels with chips. They have found the delicate balance of being crispy yet fluffy and a whole meal in itself/

In August, my friend and I was able to venture to Brighton for her early birthday celebration. After being stuck indoors for so long, it was a nice break to the covid routine by going somewhere different. Brighton is a vibrant place brimming with vegan delicacies and lots of independent shops so you are spoilt choice. But, it is also home to fearless seagulls that get too close into my personal bubble.

Mindset on Overconsumption

This is something that I am becoming more and more interested in. I believe we live in a society of overconsumption where we desire the next trendy thing, the next thing that's on offer- always going next next, next. This has undoubtedly led to a life of overconsumption; not appreciating the things that we have. It has made me more mindful of my purchasing habits and what is the motivation behind my decisions. I am planning to write a longer post on this in a few weeks.

Befriended the neighbourhood cat

The transition from living in a studio apartment by myself to moving back home was pretty brutal. The lack of freedom compared to university has been the biggest shock to the system, it was no longer acceptable to be consuming curly fries at 2am or nip to tesco express at 10:40pm. It has meant that I no longer have access to my gym membership which has made me neglect my health. Funny thing is that I feel more comfortable waking in my neighbourhood if I had a purpose, so I recently befriended the neighbourhood cat and its pushed me to go out more.

I think that it for a small little round up of 2020- albeit a bit late.
Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13994226537413489302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065328153262497723.post-14451198413448433032021-01-16T15:38:00.006+00:002021-01-16T15:44:41.279+00:00Mac Loud and Clear Highlighter in Hot Damn-Oiselle D'avignon

I was lusting for this highlighter for ages because of the unique simplistic packaging as well as the gorgeous warm peachy hue. It's a limited edition extra dimension skin finish in Hot Damn-Oiselle D'avignon from Mac which was released during their Spring 2020 collection. The perfect pink peach hue compliments my South East Asian skin tone as it adds a warmth to my face. It also works perfect as an inner corner highlight as well as a light reflective eyeshadow so, its a very multi-functional product for the makeup collection.

The highlighter is quite a hard formula which means that there is little fall out therefore, I can assure you that the product is going to last a very long time! One of things that I was hesitant about was whether it would accentuate pores, they're almost like craters. It was a sigh of relief that it did not accentuate pores and looked beautiful on the skin.
Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13994226537413489302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065328153262497723.post-47421469515569000392020-10-01T22:51:00.004+01:002020-10-01T22:51:45.676+01:00Project Pan during a PAN-demic

Another uneventful return to the blogging world whilst trying new things. The gif shown above was a little experiment that I had undertaken during the lockdown period where I vowed to learn new things. Who would have thought that 2020 would be the perfect year for a Project Pan pun.

Ironically, there are very few empty makeup pans from my initial post. I realised that with the directed method of project pan it restricts me too much which causes an avoid response. Now I celebrate every pan that I hit regardless on whether it was in my project pan list.

I used to think that this powder was excellent at doing it's job and that the shine glistening on my forehead is from my base makeup etc. Imagine my surprise when I used my Innisfree Powder on a recent trip and I was completely matte with the same base makeup. This has made me come to a conclusion; it's good but not that good.

<b style="background-color: white; color: #313131; font-family: times, "times new roman", serif; font-size: large;">Dermakeup Power Balm Concealer SPF30 PA+++ | Dr. Jart

Cue an eeeeeekkk, I hit a new pan! It was a surprise pan as I often use the glitter shades the most, the only possible reason that it hit pan first is that it's quite powdery.

All Over Shimmer Duo <b style="background-color: white; color: #313131; font-family: times, "times new roman", serif; font-size: large;">| <b style="background-color: white; color: #313131; font-family: times, "times new roman", serif;">Stila

This shimmer duo is absolutely gorgeous where there is a slight warmth from the pinker shade and the paler one is perfect to highlight. <span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">As consumers, we are experiencing a marketing overload encouraging us to buy new products because they feature the latest technology, nicer packaging or a one-off special edition. It creates a need with urgency leading to many impulse purchases and many other things being neglected in my collection.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Healthy Balance Powder | Bourjois
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Self confessed face powder hoarder. I currently have at least 3 powders on the go and they seem to never end. This is the oldest powder in my collection and the only one that is showing the pan slightly therefore let the pan reveal itself.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

Dermakeup Power Balm Concealer SPF30 PA+++ | Dr. Jart
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">A yellow based pot concealer that I had bought in at a Dr. Jart store in South Korea the previous year. I have experimented with its application and finally found a way that doesn't cake and highlight dry patches, i'm expecting to use more of this.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

Milky Shadow Palette | Holika Holika
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I'm not expecting to finish the whole palette but it would be nice to see at least a dent.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

"That Gal" Face Primer | Benefit
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I have had this primer forever... maybe a little too long. It's a moisturising brightening face primer which is perfect for drier skin. As the colder seasons are upon us, this primer is the perfect match.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">No Sebum Blur Primer | Innisfree
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I alternate between this and the benefit primer. It's a silicon-based primer which has its good days and bad days therefore it depends on how my skin is looking that day to decide whether to slather it on my face. An issue I have is that I overestime the amount of primer I need which leads to the primer forming clumps and emphasises dryness.

This post has been sitting in my drafts for a while, it would be a shame to let the image of the beautiful place to go to waste.

As a frequent traveller, I'm often awe-struck by elements that define the country's culture. Every visitor undoubtedly has atleast one temple on their to-do list, so it's not surprise that it becomes quite busy. Temples in Thailand is like the decadent core of a Lindt chocolate, hard to get to but satisfied with the indulgence.

Wat Arun possessed a grandiose that made every individual gasp and exclaim from the magnificence in front of them. Each edge was licked with gold that reflected the beaming mid-afternoon sun. An indicator that shows Wat Arun was suitable for young and old, is it's ability to render children quiet followed by their inquisitive questions about the intricate detailing, structure and history that went into building it hundreds of years ago.

Wat Arun is conveniently next to Wat Pho therefore it's ideal to go to both destinations on the same day- I recommend having a day purely dedicated to temples. If your days are limited or whether you want to manage your time wisely I recommend visiting the temples in the morning and when returning to the same peer, head towards the Asiantique dock which is next to where you get let off.

Remember! Bring some long trousers in your bag to wear when you get it or you can purchase the iconic Thailand patterned themed trousers which are really comfortable and thin. It would also be a good memorabilia of the trip.

It was truly a beautiful day to be in Paris.

I was in Paris for one day- exactly one day- so I had to compact everything that I wanted to do into the constraints.

Once in Paris, everything had its own flawless quirk. Traveller's chasing the famous Parisian lifestyle that they had dreamed about and has an entire interest board to represent and immerse themselves.
Minute flaws seem to dwarf itself against the beautiful attractions where each individual is mentally ticking things off on their 'to see list' and documenting their time.

Each winding road that converges into another similar looking road is every photographers dream as Paris is undeniably stunning. The best times to have the clearest view of iconic sites like the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and Champ Elysee would be in the early morning, this allows other travellers to slowly trickle in whilst you make a swift exit to your next landmark.

Being in Paris strangely reminded me of my AS Level Paris Poetry Anthology where each poem that we studied had a theme of Paris or was inspired by the city. It was crazy to see subjects that was on paper was suddenly right in front of me.

Funnily enough, I am going to Paris again for the 2nd time in 2 years. Hopefully I get to try some more new things and create more fun memories.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">There's too much negativity in the world. Here are a few small things that make me happy and to remind you to find happiness in unexpected places.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">1). Unexpected beauty

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">When we talk about investment, the 2 critical words is whether we are making a profit or a loss. Are we making an investment in the short term or the long term? What's the level of certainty that we'll get a return?

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">At 20, I am experience first-hand how daunting planning and strategising on how I am going to achieve my dream career. It has made me realise that careers are a tricky investment, there are peaks, lows, risks and opportunities. Where you as an individual, will influence how it pans out in the future. At times, certain risks like agreeing to a job that may need you to sacrifice time or money which can be seen as a loss, may lead to another profit like connections in life in the long term. Over this summer, I had to debate whether to prioritise experience or money- and I would say the latter. After obtaining several work experiences and a job, it has demonstrated that it is an interconnected cycle where one directly feeds another.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">So the question is, are all losses unprofitable?

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Sometimes, you enter a job and realise that it is not at all what you had desired or expected. Some may see this as a loss of time, money and effort through the process of obtaining the job and then leaving. On the otherhand, some see this positively as you would have gained skills, experience and knowledge about your personal career aspirations and interactions of different people. These intangible profit are the core of what drives a positive mindset towards an uncertain future career.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Lastly, I would like to say good luck on your future investment and that your sacrifices and achievements will be recognised as life starts to unravel itself.

On my recent trip to Hong Kong, I got to explore Kowloon City. Unlike Mong Kok and Central, this place will not impress you with it's trendiness or with any high fashion shops that Hong Kong is famous for. Instead, Kowloon City entrances visitors with it's aged personality where hints of Thailand ribbons it's way through the street.

The unbearing humidity beckoned by the passing showers and the heat made exploring harder but it becomes the norm. This shop encapsulates the essence of Hong Kong life in the 1970s (according to my mum who is a native) before the introduction of supermarket chains. Loyal customers keep breathing life into this shop desiring a truly authentic shopping experience where rows upon rows of stacked sauces tower of each individuals head. The natural movement of tiptoeing on the balls of the feet to reach for the desired sauce which adorns that nights dinner. As you shuffle through the aisles, your lasting footprints enriches the visible wear of the floor where the past and the present merge into one.

As the days come and go, these authentic supermarkets are becoming more and more scarce. If the opportunity presents itself, instead of withdrawing back from the aged and messy clutter- go in to find the hidden gems of the past.Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13994226537413489302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065328153262497723.post-7911241143829273232019-02-22T02:18:00.001+00:002019-02-22T14:41:46.956+00:00Your distant close friend.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">'You okay?'
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">'<strike>No- I'm struggling to come to terms on being independent and spending time on my own. I feel like you're forgetting me and I'm having a hard time coping with that.</strike> Yes I'm cool lol'
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">University is a time where you may really struggle with mental health and emotions that brew within the mysterious mind- and it may hit a time when the concoction turns sour.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Mine finally spoilt.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Unlike the times when the overwhelming stress of finishing a deadline in the last few days before the assignment is due, I become the unsuspecting victim suffocating in the tsunami of loneliness.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The funny thing is that physically all my main friendship groups are the closest they have ever been but also, the furthest that I have felt from them. For a couple of months, I was prioritising work and summer placements, I was slaving endless hours scouring the internet for my entry into the world of work. Was sacrificing socialising for productivity worth it in my futile placement search? S l o w l y but surely, I was being left behind- forgotten, a distant friend.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">As I kept pushing the gatherings, I was unknowingly pushing my friends away. My support system of friends are active yet dormant. My presence within gatherings were decreasing, my participation was decreasing, my value and importance was decreasing. The only connection tying me together within the groups is my icon that remains omnipresent. Despite knowing that the invitations extends onto me, I have reached a point where I am withdrawing myself and struggle to join in again.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Previously, the friendship was so present and constant within my life where I was a vital member within the group talking daily about nonsense but now, I open the chat icon and stare. I understand that they have other friends, priorities and things that needs to be done but this plummeting feeling of loneliness is consuming.
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">I may be <span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"><strike>more than</strike><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"> a couple of weeks late to my birthday post which should have been posted on the 28th September but let's just pretend I did.

It's weird to think I have already reached another milestone in life. The vehicle of life that I am riding is accelerating at rates unfathomable to myself with times of gentle lulling, unexpected traffic jams and uncontrollable diverted roads.
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">

Recently, a cauldron of emotions have been brewing inside my head. A sprinkle of stress, a dashing of university and a whole lot of growing up. I have a feeling you will be seeing me more on here.
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">

Entering my 20's was very intimidating and daunting. This is the phase in life where things can change the most drastically. Big changes occur and transitions will cement the paths that will be taken and decisions upon whether the you actually progress on that road is a mystery. The lifestyle stage between being in your early 20s where your are in education and trying to find a job would progress to the expectation, that you would be in a stable job, saving up to buy a house and that you are somewhat in control of your life.

I am still trying to find what is truly me. Some individuals have settled into themselves as soon as they start university, but i'm still struggling to determine who 'Carmen' is. There are still many moments where the awkward teen with no social skills peek out into the world; would I miss her if she goes completely?

I guess... I am scared. Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13994226537413489302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065328153262497723.post-66064257936842442352018-10-24T08:12:00.001+01:002018-10-24T08:13:42.312+01:00Travel | Meet Me At The Cascada Monumental

The best way to start posting about my holiday adventure is to start off with my favourite picture that I took after 6 weeks of travelling.

This picture was taken in Barcelona, a city overflowing with beautiful sculptures and landscapes, rightly so because its the birthplace of the famous architect Gauldi. It was designed by a Catailan architect Josep Fontserè with contributions from young Gauldi, it is located at the Ciutadella Park.

The picture above, was taken at the top of the fountain where the cascading waters start its descent. Unlike the front of the monument, I wouldn't say that with one look it would leave you awestruck but it gives a sense of rawness with the sharp edges that juts out in all different directions and appreciate the level of care that was put into this beautiful fountain. The shadows casted from the sculpture created a beautiful dynamic between the warmth of the sun and the material.

It's a perfect place to take a couple of selfies or sculptural photos of the fountain from different angles like on either side of the staircases or at the top. Surprisingly, very few tourists and locals went to the very top, many remained at the front. Although this gives an amazing view of the whole fountain and the glistening waters, it becomes a cliche shot. So by all means, take that generic shot- take multiple, with different poses but I urge you to explore up the stairs to get some amazing shots of the fountain and sculptures that surrounds it. Additionally consider the time that you go to take the pictures because it would play a massive role on the overall aesthetic of the image- early morning would give a cold palette and afternoon to be warmer.

Definitely beware of scammers at this site as there were many of them lounging around the side stairs asking you to sign a petition with a donation and personal details. It's no understatement when I say that even if you make eye contact they are persistent so I would say just ignore at all costs.

Unknowingly, I went here during Catalan Pride Day and it was the right decision to do so. It was close to the hub of the festivities with concerts and stalls which was selling all sorts of merchandise with the Catalan flag on to show their pride. This attraction is close to Arc De Triomf and other places to visit so I would recommend you to spend a whole afternoon here. Stay tuned for a blog post dedicated to that day.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">These images of my friend always makes me go uwu.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Hitchin Lavender Farm costs £6 to enter the lavender fields where they provide you with an adequate sized brown paper bag and a pair of scissors so you can fill up the bag. A majority of the fields are made up of purple lavender but there is a very very small patch of white lavender at the far end of the fields- keep an eye out for them. Beyond the lavender fields, there are sunflowers patches which can be picked at a price of 50p per a stem. Even on busy days, the fields don't feel crowded because the site is so vast that there are many spots where you can take the perfect Instagram.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">At the edge of the field are tepee tents and outdoor picnic tables so you can bring your own picnic or snack. If you want to treat yourself, they have a delightful selection of baked goods and a gift shop available on the other side of field, you don't need to pay entry to enter this part of the farm. Although the cakes are on the pricer side, for the size and flavour I would say it's an absolute bargain. There was an avocado and courgette cake which sounds questionable, chocolate and beetroot and the most eye catching was the matcha, jasmine and raspberry cake which was an absolute dream.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I do recommend to consider the recent weather conditions before going as the lavender will likely reflect the rain, sun, storm and wind. After weeks of the blazing sun, the lavender was relatively dried out where the colour became a muted purple instead of the vibrant purple that we associate lavender with. From looking at other people's Instagram pictures, it seems that the lavender is most beautiful during the early blooming stages or when the lavender has been drenched in sun and rain.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The location is awkward to access but I understand that there needs to have vast and plentiful fields to be home to the lavender farm. The most logical and straightforward option to travel to the farm is to arrive at Hitchin Train Station and get an uber or a taxi- apparently from their official website it should be approximately £8.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> (sorry for the awkwardly long image, I'm experimenting with sizes and layouts)
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">1. Octopus Cards are your best friends
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">If you're travelling in Hong Kong for a few days where you would be using public transport regularly, I would definitely recommend you to nip to the closest MTR station service desk to buy one of these nifty cards. To use this card, there would be a sum of money which would be deducted with every purchase from public transports (except taxis), stores and restaurants. To top the octopus card up, you can go to any convenience store like Seven Eleven and Circle K where you can ask for a top up.When you purchase the card, you would need to pay a deposit and upon return, there would be a refund a sum of money.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">2. Tissues, tissues, tissues
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Did I stress that you need tissues enough? Some of you may not know the importance of having a packet of tissues or a napkin from the meal that you had yesterday. Unless you are going to the toilet in large shopping centres, be prepared to use your own precious stash of tissues. So always bring some tissue with you to the toilet regardless because we don't want emergencies like pleadingly asking for anyone to pass you some tissues. If you want to be extra fancy and try something new, Tempo Tissues are scented with a variety of flavours from mint to peach.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">3. Humidity is hell
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Both of them begin with H- that has to mean something. If you've ever visited a country in Asia then you may have met the devil otherwise know as humidity. Temperatures are suffocatingly hot and even when cloudy, it's unbearably sticky. If you visit HK during the monsoon season, sudden showers create a even more humid environment so you should pack loose clothing which is cooling. You'll soon realise why shopping centres are so packed.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">4. Shops open late and close late
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Sorry to disappoint but if you're planning to start your day early to shop till you drop it may prove difficult because a majority of shops open at 10-11am but close considerably later. If you want an early start, I would recommend visiting tourist sites which are bound to be open early so you can avoid the crowds and temperatures would be cooler. It's a country which thrives at nighttime, people come bustling out of mtr stations and you're like where do all these people come from. Notably places like Central, Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui has greater variety of things to do therefore I would recommend going to one of these popular places.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">5. Table Buddies for the next 30 minutes
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Hong Kong is busy. It can be considered densely populated for a country which is as small as a dot with a 0.1 fine liner where you may need to squint to actually see the country. One of the small quirks about HK is that it's very common to share tables with strangers- in a city where fast and furious can be it's tag line, maximisation and efficiency is important. In independent restaurants which serve more casual and laid back food 'cha chan tien' and dim sum places, it's common to share a booth or a table so don't look to overly shocked at your next 30 minute friend.
'Cats' and 'Thailand' are two separate nouns that I have never thought would be worthy of a blog post but here I am, making the unlikely happen.

After travelling around Bangkok for a few days, I became fond of these feline friends that roam freely amongst the Gods. They are easily missed amongst the magnificent structures and architectures at the different temples but surely enough they will appear like a passing shower. Weirdly enough seeing them gave me a sense of familiarity and my inner animal lover was eager to stroke the little ball of fluff. A ginger tabby sleeping serenely in the corner tucked away enjoying the peace and calm. Something so small gave me so much joy that day that I would often find myself eagerly showing other travellers this picture I took.

Another temple that I had also visited had a whole cat gang of 8 that stride confidently in their hood- also know as the women's toilet. It was a comical memory, when I heard screeches coming from the cubicles from unsuspecting users when suddenly a cat may squeeze themselves in to say hi. They were all super friendly and happy to be stroked by everyone and it made it easy to bond with other traveller even for a few minutes.

Lastly, one very important thing that I have neglected to mention throughout this short post is that I'm allergic to cats. Ok. Bye. Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13994226537413489302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065328153262497723.post-60772575819955517162018-07-22T11:31:00.000+01:002018-07-22T11:32:46.182+01:00Review | Innisfree Orchid Enriched Cream

<span style="font-family: times, "times new roman", serif; font-size: large;">I'm a Innisfree skincare advocate. They have many skincare lines which target different problem areas and concerns whilstusing natural ingredients sounds like a winner for me.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">From the pictures above, you can already seen how much I've used and I am loving every little bit of it. Innisfree claims that the Jeju orchids are packed with anti-oxidents and neutrilising agents which will combat the negative effects that daily life has on the skin- mainly targeting anti-ageing.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">It has a thick consistency which would be better for the colder months or if you have patches of very dry skin as it can be a little too much for the spring and summer months making you look like a oily potato. As I have combination skin, dry patches would appear even when I'm sweating gallons therefore I spread a very very thin layer to smooth the skin to create a nice moisturised base for a glowy look.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">As it's such a creamy base, I tend to keep my morning skincare routine to a minimal because it would be too much if you layer serums and essences followed by this cream as your makeup would be slipping all over the place- even if you bake your foundation. It's also convenient to travel with because it comes in a light plastic jar so it's safe to put in your suitcase for all the travelling ladies.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The cream has a slight floral scent but it's to be expected as it is enriched with Jeju Orchids however, if you have very sensitive skin or just not a fan of scented skincare it would be something to think about. I was surprised that this cream didn't cause my skin to go into a frenzy as I have very reactive acne which can be triggered by anything therefore you can say I was extra pleased.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I looked on the website before writing this and it seems that Innisfree has released the cream as a gel version which would be lighter and more suitable for people who have oily skin and the hotter months so I'm eyeing that gel on my next trip.
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Long overdue travel post of my not-so recent trip to New York with my business studies class for an 'educational' trip- that's what they always say.
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Days were fully packed and schedule so we used our time most efficiently so there was little time to truly explore since we were there for education however, here are a few touristy pics that I was able to snap up.

Jetlag, excitement and awe was experienced at this moment. We arrived at night so we could hardly appreciate the concrete jungle but after a night of resting, I was eager to open the curtains for New York to welcome us so I scrambled to the window with my camera in hand- waiting for this moment. Even <span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">though this photo isn't the most beautifully taken or the best quality or has the best composition, it is one of my favourite image from the trip because of this moment.
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; text-align: left;">Anyone want some Sport Medicine? If you haven't realised, I am in love with photographing buildings and architecture so a majority of my travel photos are buildings. The cold weather brought in clear blue skies which created a fantastic backdrop and lighting for my buildings but other days were more grey shown below.

It's not even an understatement when I say British people freak out when we see 1cm of snow. Food supplies in supermarkets are wiped clean almost like we're going through the next ice age. New Yorkers deal with the snow like pros almost as if they're genetically modified to be adapted to the snow whereas our business class was slipping and sliding our way to the destinations. Truly surprised that nobody broke a bone considering so many of us slipped.

A short and sweet trip that I thoroughly enjoyed but I feel like New York truly shines for people in their mid-20s to early 30s. Guess you'll be expecting another New York Travel Diary in 9 years~~Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13994226537413489302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065328153262497723.post-29869500227920210012018-03-29T05:55:00.000+01:002018-05-18T10:24:37.393+01:00Photo Diary | The Golden Hours That Caresses Tsim Sha Tui

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This is the first post in this new series of photo diary posts that I am going to write in the future. I have been finding it very hard to sit down to compose any literate piece of writing, and if i do- it lacks sincerity.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Yesterday, I captured a few photos at Tsim Sa Tui when I spent a few hours just listening to music then had a realisation that it would be perfect to create a mini series highlighting special moments in the beauty of life.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">So let's set sail to a new era of Forever-Hibernating!

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The main reason which initiated me watching this movie last night was the opening scene from Radio Romance where Kim Soo Hyun's character says:
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">We were all somebody's first love. You, and you too. During that time, we were all a boy or a girl in love, and we could have been someone's first love.Dear listeners of Mi Nu's Happy 6pm, today, Wrap it up. Are you ready to go back to when you were someone's first love?"

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Those lines really struck me and I guess, here I am, writing a not-so-review-like review.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Review
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">In the opening scenes, we are positioned in present day allowing us to meet our main characters Seung-Min (Uhm Tae-Woong) an architecture and Seo-Yeon (Han Ga-In) who insists that Seung-Min help redesign and build her childhood home in Jeju Island.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Once we have gotten ourselves familiar with the cast, present day melts away into the past. Seung-Min (Lee Je-Hoon) and Seo-Yeon (Suzy) are in their first year of university who are enrolled in Architecture 101, hence the title of the movie. Once in the past, we are met with many old gems like pagers, walk mans, disposable cameras and the thriving life of youths where Seung-Min and Seung-Yeon's foundation of first loves are paved innocently.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The contrast of past and present show us how our characters have grown and matured from university to present day emphasising how things change over time, where things left unsaid lead to misunderstanding and broken feelings. It unveils how they shared the same experiences at that stage of their lives but over time priorities change, people change, circumstances change and reality becomes more confrontational than the dreams they had as university students. Additionally, these transitions slowly cement the missing gaps in the house of stories that we -as viewers are building. Finding out the past, solidifying our foundations and by the end of the movie we are left with a house.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I watch many variety shows and they have referenced the iconic 'how to kiss' scene by Nabddeuki (Jo Jung Suk) who I feel is the ultimate hype-man and a likable character which depicts the value of friendship. I was especially fond of their relationship because whilst at university life is about exploration, curiosity and relationships where a good friend would have went through that journey with you. The duo will definitely make you laugh with their banter in between all the heart break and tense moments.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The director did a wonderful job of capturing the beautiful Jeju landscape which can make any viewer fall in love with the view and Jeju Island. It also served as a serene backdrop to the more personal moments where it panned out with a voice over allowing us to focus on the words. The feelings of content, heartbreak, regret and longing.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">From my perspective, building the house was symbolic to show the growth of people through different stages of life. Even after many designs and renovations, the house still holds the essence of the past, present and future learn to co-exist. This reflects the relationship between our main characters where they learn to look upon their memory fondly and that a person will always hold a special place in one's heart.Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13994226537413489302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065328153262497723.post-19969686863571833682018-01-04T14:24:00.000+00:002018-01-19T22:20:48.451+00:00Travel | Finding Your Zen In Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Chi Lin Vegetarian Restaurant

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden is connected by a walkway therefore remember to visit the other part where there is an amazing vegetarian restaurant which served the most delicious vegetarian sweet and sour 'pork'. Miraculously enough, it had the same texture as pork and I think I even prefer it moreover the original dish which is one of my favourite dishes.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The staff recommends to get a set meal so you can try a variety of their dishes and I agree with this as you can sample the different dishes. However, I must admit the set meal for 3 is much more luxurious and worth the money than the set meal for 2 but nevertheless, both serve delicious food.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Tip: Book a table in advance as there's normally a long queue and try to request a table beside the waterfall. My family was lucky enough to get seated next to the waterfall and I was in awe.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Getting There

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The easiest way of getting there is by MTR. Get off at Diamond Hill Station Exit C2 and follow signs towards Chi Lin Nunnery.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">It should take approximately 5 minutes to get there.

Hi... I guess I'm back?!

If you're reading this and you're unfamiliar with who I am, I shall introduce myself as Carmen.

A lactose intolerant who loves all things dairy. Marketing Management undergraduate who hasn't gotten food poisoning...yet! Crisps addict with a weakness for potato products because potatoes are the god of all vegetables. Chopsticks are the superior utensil of all kitchen utensils. Bilingual in English and Cantonese but apparently I have a strong British accent in my Cantonese- who knows anymore?

I hope you get a better picture of who I am :)

I'm ready to return to return to this blog after taking multiple breaks throughout the year due to different changes in my life like a-levels, travelling and university. I can officially say I'm back to working on this blog as my creative outlet but this blog definitely needs a rebrand because as I've grown older, my interests have inevitably change so I want this blog to correlate this.

<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">I've always wanted to write a post about product empties, confirming that I've finally used up the product and that my impulse purchases have been worthwhile. As a result, it has led to months of endless hoarding of empty product tubes and products destined for the bin.

You may feel like this is an inadequate amount of empties that I have accumulated but it's due to the fact that I instinctively throw finished products into the bin before I can think about this blog post. I finally feel like it's time that they make their journey into the bin instead of hogging a drawer space where I can put other goodies, am I right?
No- Sebum Mineral Powder - Innisfree
Not entirely cheap as chips but it's still a bargain. I've already repurchased backups as the products do exactly what it's meant to do with no faults therefore it's only imperative that I repurchase this product.
Dream Touch Lumi Concealer - Maybelline
When I was getting interested in makeup, I bought this product thinking it was for spot concealing however, when i got home and plastered it onto my face I realised the product had a salmony tinge, being naive I thought the product had gone out of date.

A few month later and the discovery of colour correcting and the right purpose of this product, I was able to use it up swiftly.

AC Clean Up Cushion - Etude House
This was my favourite cushion foundation amongst those that I purchased from my haul post which I posted last year here.

Wake Me Up Concealer - Rimmel
It started to smell funny, out it goes!

24hr Colour Tattoo in Metallic Pomegranate and Pink Gold
Considering there was a layer of fine dust on top of these cream shadows and I had to physically blow off the plume of dust and the cream could be mistaken as cement for your house so I think it's time to say our goodbyes.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I'm currently sitting in the sixth form common room, tapping out my overdue thoughts and feelings onto my neglected blog in order to procrastinate, even if only for a few minutes.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">T'is the season of exams and revision. Like all other a-level students I've been trying to revise diligently by sticking to my revision time table- but reality always turns out differently when there is a revision timetable so I've been following it loosely-very loosely. I honestly think I have underestimated how hard sixth form was going to be. Nowadays, I'm not even surprised if a person just starts having a breakdown in the common room. If you haven't had a breakdown, you have not experienced the life of a true sixth form student with the ongoing stress and time is not your friend.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This very very small post is an update to where I've been, with sporadic posts here and there, you can see that I am the prime example of poor time management. Nevertheless, this update is about finally finishing my exams next week and as the countdown to summer gets smaller and smaller, the grin plastered onto my face gets bigger and bigger much like a child marveling a new toy. After all the breakdowns and stress filled weeks, you can say it's fianlly sigh of relief that I can finally see the end point.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Hopefully by the end of this summer, I have organised my life a bit better than I have now lol
